Period Underwear Sizing & Gusset Grading Checklist
Plan the size range early. Grade the gusset along with the garment so protection stays in the right place from the smallest size to the largest.
Why Grading Matters
A gusset that fits a size M may be too short in a 4XL or too long in an XS. Grading must adjust gusset length and width as well as the outer pattern.
Typical Ranges
Most ranges run from XS to 3XL. Inclusive ranges extend to 5XL or 6XL. Teen ranges start at XXS.
Size Charts
Give us your size chart or ask for a starting chart. We compare it with the pattern and test a fit sample.
Fit Sample Checklist
- Waist and hip measurements
- Leg opening and rise
- Gusset length and width
- Stretch recovery after washing

Period underwear sizing: buyer questions
How do we choose a size range?
Start with the target customer, market convention and commercial plan, then review the pattern and gusset across the smallest, base and largest sizes.
Should the gusset be graded separately?
It needs its own grade rules for length, width and placement. If the gusset does not grow with the garment, protection can shift or become too short at the rear.
What is a fit sample?
It is a physical garment used to check measurements, rise, leg opening, waistband recovery and gusset placement on a body or fit form before production.
How to use this guide in a supplier brief
Give the supplier your size chart and the measurement points you use. Ask how the gusset is graded and request fit samples at the extremes of the range.
Period Underwear Pattern Grading
Grading is not just scaling the waist
A period panty has a functional gusset inside a stretch garment. Each grade needs to preserve gusset length, width and placement, waist and hip fit, leg opening and rise. If the outer pattern grows but the gusset does not, protection can move away from the body or become too short at the rear.
What to define before grading
- Base size and measurement points
- Size range and interval between sizes
- Waist, hip, rise and leg-opening targets
- Gusset length and width by size
- Stretch fabric and recovery assumptions
- Fit model or reference garment
- Market-specific size conventions
A practical grading review
We compare the grade against your size chart, build a sample at the smallest, base and largest sizes, then review fit on a fit model where possible. Measurement alone does not show whether the gusset sits correctly or whether the waistband rolls.
