OEKO-TEX vs GOTS for Period Underwear | Buyer Guide
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 tests a finished product for harmful substances. GOTS certifies organic fibre content and the supply chain. They answer different questions and many brands use both.
OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
OEKO-TEX tests textiles for harmful substances and certifies products within a stated scope. Our certificate 26.HCN.12213 is Product Class I and covers period panties made from the knitted fabric constructions it lists.
GOTS
GOTS covers organic fibre content, processing and social criteria. Our licence GOTS-BVCN9928 covers reusable period panties in 100% organic cotton. A scope certificate does not prove that a particular shipment is GOTS. Each shipment needs a transaction certificate.
Which Do You Need?
| Question | Look at |
|---|---|
| Is the finished product tested for harmful substances? | OEKO-TEX |
| Is the cotton organic and the supply chain audited? | GOTS |
Check the Scope
Always read the scope on the certificate. A fabric or style outside the scope is not covered.

OEKO-TEX vs GOTS: buyer questions
Which certificate do we need for a period underwear claim?
Use OEKO-TEX when the question is harmful-substance testing within a product scope. Use GOTS when the claim concerns certified organic fibre and the associated supply chain.
Does a GOTS scope certificate prove a shipment is GOTS?
No. The scope certificate defines the certified operation and product scope. A GOTS-labelled shipment also needs a transaction certificate.
Can both apply to one product?
They can be relevant to different parts of the claim, but the exact product, fibre and certificate scope still need to align.
How to use this guide in a supplier brief
Attach the current certificate scope to the RFQ and ask the supplier to mark which fabric and component each document covers. This avoids treating a broad marketing claim as product-level evidence.
