Custom Period Swim Bodysuits for Brand Development

A one-piece and bodysuit development route for brands that need a controlled fit, lining and swim gusset rather than a standard swim brief.

Packaging direction · final artwork to brief

The Strappy Period Swim Bodysuit reference, LJ-Jan-Y855, combines a statement outer silhouette with a protected gusset route. A bodysuit is less forgiving than a separate bottom: the torso length, strap position and leg opening all influence how the gusset sits during movement.

Statement swim bodysuit with strap detail. More complex fit and lining work makes this a higher-development swim reference.

Start with the body block, not the strap detail

Before reviewing straps, colour or back design, confirm the torso length, rise, leg opening, seat coverage and gusset placement. A beautiful strap layout cannot compensate for a body block that shifts during movement. The pattern should be reviewed as a complete garment on the intended size range.

Fit and construction review

  • Torso length and whether the gusset stays aligned when the arms move.
  • Strap width, placement, adjustability and pressure points.
  • Neckline and back shape relative to support and coverage.
  • Lining attachment through the front and crotch.
  • Seam or bonding plan at the leg opening and gusset edge.

Lining and gusset questions

The lining should remain flat and opaque through the relevant area. Review the dry sample first, then repeat the check after the agreed water and care conditioning. Record the exact BOM, including the outer shell, lining, absorbent core, barrier and any adhesive or trim. If the bodysuit has a cut-out or open-back detail, confirm that it does not alter the support or gusset position.

Sample and test plan

  1. Approve the body block, strap layout and measurement set.
  2. Review the gusset position on the fit sample in motion.
  3. Check lining flatness, opacity and edge finish.
  4. Agree water-exposure, stretch, colourfastness and care tests for the materials.
  5. Confirm packaging, label text and claim wording after the test scope is known.

What can be customised

Strap layout, back shape, colour, cup or bust support direction, leg opening, lining route and packaging can be developed to the brief. Structural changes to the body block or gusset need a new sample. The reference image does not represent stock, a fixed MOQ or a finished-product certification.

Common failure points in a bodysuit sample

The most useful review happens in motion, not only while the garment is flat. Check whether the torso pulls the gusset backward when the wearer lifts their arms, whether the leg opening rolls, and whether the strap attachment creates a pressure point. Also check the lining through the crotch and front area for folding, visible edges and changes in opacity. Record each issue against the sample version so the next pattern change is traceable.

What to send first

A sketch, reference garment or tech pack, target size range, intended support level and the market where the product will be sold are enough to begin a feasibility review. The buyer should also state whether the gusset is expected to support a specific use or claim; that decision changes the material and test plan.

Buyer questions

Can you develop a bodysuit from a sketch rather than a tech pack?

Yes. The first step is to turn the sketch into a measurement brief and identify the missing construction decisions before sampling.

Can the straps be adjustable?

Adjustability is possible if the hardware, strap width and attachment method are specified and reviewed for comfort and durability.

Does a bodysuit need a different test plan from swim bottoms?

The same material and water questions apply, but the larger body block adds fit, support, seam and movement variables that should be checked on the complete garment.

Can we use the reference for a private-label range?

Yes, after the body block, gusset, materials, labels and claims are approved for the intended market.

Editorial review: 8 November 2026. Product references are development starting points; final performance and claims require approval on the named sample.
