Period Underwear Absorbency Testing & Claim Support
Plan capacity testing on the finished period underwear style and use the result to support an accurate product claim.
Capacity is a result, not a marketing assumption
A capacity figure should describe a finished product under a defined test method. It cannot be transferred reliably from a fabric datasheet, a competitor page or a different style. The sample, layer stack, coverage and test procedure all affect the result.
Before the test
- Approve the final or representative construction
- Record the exact materials and gusset dimensions
- Agree the test method and receiving laboratory
- Prepare the required number of samples
- Define how the result will be reported and used
Interpreting the result
A single number rarely captures the full wearing experience. The result should be read alongside coverage, fit, barrier placement, drying behaviour and the intended wear duration. A product may pass a capacity test yet perform poorly if the gusset moves or the customer uses it beyond the intended flow level.
Claims and ranges
If a style is part of a light/medium/heavy range, the tiers should be based on consistent test targets or qualitative use definitions. Do not change the core or coverage silently between colours or sizes without checking the effect on the claim.
A practical next step
Start with the intended customer and flow level, then build and test the finished sample. If the result does not match the target, revise the construction before writing the packaging copy. This keeps the product and the claim moving together.

Frequently asked questions
Can you use an existing capacity result for a new style?
Only if the construction and materials are proven equivalent. A new shell, gusset or barrier should trigger a review.
Do you provide a millilitre rating by default?
We do not assign a generic rating. Capacity is a project-specific development and testing question.
What else should be tested?
Depending on the claim, consider wash durability, PFAS screening, colourfastness, dimensional stability and the relevant material-compliance documents.
